Luxor - A visit by Egyptian Dreams

Day 1 - The Journey to Luxor

At 6:30am Christmas morning we arrived at the Airport, checked in and went for a coffee, my first since Thursday. That's when my short reprieve from my illness ended! I know people say that you may get a dodgy stomach when you go to places like Egypt but I've never heard of going there with one before hand. After disappearing to the toilet several times we finally boarded the plane and left the ground at around 9:00am. The flight was around 5.5 hours which seems an awful lot longer with an upset stomach!

Once we arrived at Luxor International Airport we collected our suitcase and made our way to immigration. Having absolutely no clue what to do we stopped and started retrieving the documents from the travel company I had printed out the previous night. That was when a rep spotted us and guided us through the required processes and got us to our coach (actually a mini bus as there were only 7 of us going to their hotels). After a short journey we arrived at our hotel, checked in and got to our room.

You can read about the hotel here.

We unpacked and then decided we'd go and get a coffee and something to eat. I really didn't fancy much as my stomach was doing the River Dance at that point but I managed an omelete while Sabine had kofta (meatballs).

After chatting Barbara, one of the other English guests at the hotel, we went back up to our room and I went to bed, feeling rather miserable and unwell. That was when I had the worst night of my life. I won't go into details but suffice to say I spent most of it in the bathroom. What a happy Christmas Day that was, not.
